We fully support The Green Construction Board strategy’s ambition of reducing greenhouse gas emissions from the built environment by 50% by 2025 and in addition to our internal carbon reduction initiatives, we support our clients by offering advice and information on sustainable options / opportunities to reduce CO2 emissions during both the construction and operation of their buildings.

Our Carbon Reduction Plan is supported by the following CCS Consulting Ltd policies:

  • • Environmental Policy
  • • Sustainability Policy
  • • Green Travel Policy
  • • Corporate Responsibility Policy

Baseline Emissions Footprint

Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gases that have been produced in the past and were produced prior to the introduction of any strategies to reduce emissions. Baseline emissions are the reference point against which emissions reduction can be measured. Baseline Year: 2020

Additional Details relating to the Baseline Emissions calculations.

CCS Consulting assessed and reported on our carbon emissions for the first time in 2020 as detailed below. We have included our UK emissions for Scope 1 and Scope 2, along with the following subset of Scope 3 emissions categories as detailed in PPN 0621 Technical Standard for the Completion of Carbon Reduction Plans:

Category 5 – Waste generated in Operations

Category 6 – Business Travel

Category 7 – Employee Commuting

CCS Consulting do not manufacture or sell items which are transported / distributed and therefore downstream transportation and distribution is not applicable to our business.

The information and figures used to provide our calculations have been provided as accurate to the best of our knowledge, and as far as practicable, we have assumed that figures are representative of our operation. These figures have been calculated using the Supply Chain Sustainability School Carbon Tool and GHG Emission Calculation.

Please note, due to no gas being used in our offices, and no company fleet vehicles, our Scope One emissions are zero.

Emissions Reduction Targets

CCS Consulting have set a target to reduce our Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 50% by 2027 based on our 2020 baseline, utilising external consultants where required. By 2035, any remaining emissions will be offset in the UK.

Carbon Reduction Projects

In the past two years, CCS Consulting have implemented a number of new initiatives which have reduced our carbon emissions by 16%, despite an 36% increase in staff numbers. This was achieved predominantly by the relocation of our Manchester office in 2021 to a sustainable “green” building, which has provided a significant impact on our carbon outputs, reducing our Scope Two emissions by 82%.

Our new, BREEAM Excellent rated office provides a highly sustainable, low carbon alternative, utilising only green energy sources. It includes a number of low-carbon and energy-saving features such as PIR sensors, LED lighting and ground source heat pumps which minimise the carbon emissions created during its operation.

The buildings Spinningfields location provides excellent links to public transport, supporting our Green Travel Policy and as a result, we have seen an increase in the number of staff now travelling to work using the local rail and bus networks. Cycle stores, showering and changing facilities are also available to staff, which encourages walking or cycling to work.

Further carbon reduction initiatives to date have included:

  • • Encouraging directors / staff to purchase newer, more energy efficient cars
  • • Reducing business travel by holding meeting via Microsoft Teams
  • • Implementing a paperless office
  • • Encouraging staff to car share when undertaking site visits
  • • Offering flexible working to allow employees to work from home.

Future initiatives to Achieve Net Zero

We have identified the following future initiatives to ensure we achieve our aim of Carbon Net Zero by 2035:

  • • Carbon Footprint Awareness training to employees
  • • Promotion of Green Travel Policy with incentives for staff
  • • Continue with our accreditation to ISO 14001
  • • Directors / staff encouraged to “go green” when changing vehicles
  • • Maintain our sustainable procurement policy and ethical purchasing procedure
  • • Support our clients by providing low carbon solutions for their building requirements
  • • Expanding our Scope Three reporting to include Upstream Transportation and Distribution (due to our serviced and paperless office, this is currently extremely minimal)
  • • Implement carbon offsetting measures for example, membership to Ecologi, who provide tree planting around the UK
